Anxiety And Stress - What We Do To Cause It And How To Overcome It

Many people use the terms "stress" and "anxiety" interchangeably, but they are in fact two separate conditions. Stress is a response to a stimulus, which can be external or internal. You may experience stress because you are frustrated with something (like waiting in line behind a slow person) or when you are worried that you will not meet expectations (such as missing a deadline at work).

Anxiety, on the other hand, is a feeling of dread, or nervousness and fear. It can be caused by negative thoughts and expectations, or as a response to stress. You may experience feelings of anxiety virtually all of the time and not understand why, or your feelings may be a response to something you are nervous about, such as an upcoming test.

Abnormal levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain may cause generalized anxiety. Some research indicates that anxiety can be brought on genetically. In addition, anxiety can stem from environmental conditions, as when the child of a parent who is often anxious becomes an anxious person by observing the parent. But very often the base cause of anxiety is simply the thoughts that a person is thinking!

Stress and anxiety are subjective conditions. Different people may feel stressed about different situations, and different people may react to their anxiousness in extremely different ways. Symptoms of anxiety can range from the mild, such as sweaty hands and tense muscles, to the severe, such as vomiting, irregular heartbeat, and anxiety attacks.

Everyone feels some amount of anxiety from time to time. We have all experienced the dry mouth and vague sense of dread before a public speaking engagement or a test. But when does it become damaging to your health? Research has revealed that chronic anxiety can make us vulnerable to sleep disorders, high blood pressure, relationship problems, and depression

For sufferers of chronic untreated anxiety, there may be detrimental health consequences that have yet to be fully examined. Some studies have found a link between generalized anxiety disorder and a number of serious health conditions including cancer, arthritis, respiratory illness, heart disease, and thyroid disease. Chronically anxious people may even be more likely to suffer a fatal cardiac attack.

If you suffer from what seems like an inappropriately high amount of anxiety relative to the circumstances, or if you feel anxious nearly every day, you may actually have an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders are chronic conditions characterized by an individual's inability to function normally because of frequent anxiety. Anxiety disorders are serious conditions that should be treated to lower the risk of long-term effects.

Anxiety treatment has long been the subject of much discussion in the medical field. Some medical professionals feel that medication is the best treatment for chronic anxiety. Unfortunately, anxiety medications often produce undesirable side effects that are just as bad as or even worse than the initial condition.

There are many safe and effective ways to control negative emotional reactions. Exercise is one that is often overlooked by anxious people, but it is highly effective. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins, which are natural pain-killing and mood-boosting chemicals. With regular exercise, you may begin to feel a dramatic decrease in negative emotional reactions to situations that would previously have made you extremely anxious.

The most effective way to deal with tension and worry is to control it from within. Stress relief and stress management techniques are very useful in handling day-to-day stress. These techniques can teach you to calm yourself and let the tension leave your body. You make a conscious effort to slow your breathing, release the worry, and remain in a peaceful state of mind. Meditation is an increasingly popular form of tension relief in which you practice mindful relaxation and deep, calm breathing.

However, if you seek a proactive method to relieve yourself of anxiety, hypnotherapy is the best treatment option. When an individual undergoes hypnotherapy, their reactions and emotional responses to events are changed at the core. This gives them the opportunity to handle typical anxiety-inducing triggers without the usual nervousness and fear.

Hypnosis is often performed by a licensed hypnotherapist in a series of regular treatments. More commonly today, hypnotherapy takes the form of self hypnosis programs which can be purchased in the form of MP3s, DVDs, or CDs for personal home use. No special skills are required to practice self hypnosis. All you need is a way to play the hypnotherapy program and a quiet space where you can listen and relax.

Another successful type of anxiety treatment is Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP. NLP is a type of therapy that helps you retrain your mind and body to naturally react to situations in a more positive manner. You can consciously decide to stay calm rather than anxious, and consequently, you always have control over your own feelings.

In summary, you can see that it is important to manage our negative emotional responses in order to remain healthy. Learning to cope with fear and nervousness may even add years onto your life. To treat long term anxiety, the best course of action is to use hypnosis to change your attitudes and reactions from within. Then, it becomes easy to use stress management techniques as needed to remain calm in everyday situations.

The Happening

In THE HAPPENING, M. Night Shyamalan serves up over-the-top, apocalyptic strangeness. The film opens onto New York City\'s Central Park with a crowd of people enjoying an idyllic summer day. The carefree scene soon takes a terrifying turn, when out of nowhere, hordes of people begin to commit suicide en masse. People scramble to make sense of the pandemonium, and many believe it is a terrorist attack.

It appears that some sort of deadly toxin is being released into the air. Cut to Elliot (Mark Wahlberg) a science teacher in Philadelphia. When he learns of the attack on New York, he meets up with his wife Alma (Zooey Deschanel), his friend Julian (John Leguizamo), and Julians\'s daughter, Jess (Ashlyn Sanchez). They make plans to get out of the city via train, but the train is evacuated in the middle of a small Pennsylvania town.

When they learn that the mysterious toxin is spreading its way across the Northeast, they break up into groups, with Elliot, Alma, and Jess running through open farmland in search of safety. They are unsure of where to hide, or what exactly they are hiding from, until Elliot slowly forms a theory about the threat. He fights to keep Alma and Jess free from harm, and the film builds to a bizarre, unsettling climax, with Shyamalan\'s usual surprise ending.

Shyamalan\'s premise of escaping an unknown, unexplainable attack is a timely one, and is quite chilling in concept. However, while he at times appears to be groping for the frenzied scariness of THE BIRDS, THE HAPPENING\'s outlandish death scenes and implausible plot line often veer closer to B-movie classics. The film doesn\'t match the clever creepiness of THE SIXTH SENSE, but for fans of campy horror la THE EVIL DEAD, it is truly something to behold.

Ben Afflect Mini Biography

Benjamin Geza Affleck was born on August 15, 1972 in Berkeley, California, USA but raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. He was born to parents Tim Affleck, a social worker, who is now divorced from Ben's mother Chris Affleck, a school teacher. Ben also has a younger brother, actor Casey Affleck, who was born in 1975.

Ben wanted to be an actor ever since he could remember and his first acting experience was for a Burger King commercial, when he was on the PBS mini-series "The Voyage of the Mimi" (1984). It was also at that age when Ben met his lifelong friend and fellow actor, Matt Damon. They played little league together and took drama classes together.

Ben's teen years consisted of mainly TV movies and small television appearances including Hands of a Stranger (1987) (TV) and "The Second Voyage of the Mimi" (1988). He made his big introduction into feature films in 1993 when he was cast in Dazed and Confused (1993). After that, he did mostly independent films like Kevin Smith's Mallrats (1995) and Chasing Amy (1997) which were great for Ben's career, receiving renowned appreciation for his works at the Sundance film festival. But the success he was having in independent films didn't last much longer and things got a little shaky for Ben.

He was living in an apartment with his brother Casey and friend Matt, getting tired of being turned down for the big roles in films and being given the forgettable supporting ones. Since Matt was having the same trouble, they decided to write their own script, where they could call all the shots. So, after finishing the script for Good Will Hunting (1997), they gave it to their agent Patrick Whitesell, who showed it to a few Hollywood studios, finally being accepted by Castlerock.

It was great news for the two but Castlerock wasn't willing to give Ben and Matt the control over the project they were hoping for. It was friend Kevin Smith who took it to the head of Miramax who bought the script giving Ben and Matt the control they wanted and, in December of 1997, Good Will Hunting (1997) was released, making the two unknown actors famous.

The film was nominated for 9 Academy Awards and won two, including Best Original Screenplay for Ben and Matt. The film marked Ben's breakthrough role, in which he was given for the first time the chance to choose roles instead of having to go through grueling auditions constantly. He chose such roles in the blockbusters Armageddon (1998/I), Shakespeare in Love (1998) and Pearl Harbor (2001). With these hits to his credit, Hollywood can't seem to get enough of Ben, with directors wanting him in their movies and companies wanting his screenplays.

His inspirational story of hard work and amazing climb to the top has brought him what he deserves and Ben Affleck has shown no sign of slowing down.

The Love Guru

Pitka (Mike Myers) is an American who was left at the gates of an ashram in India as a child and raised by gurus. He moves back to the U.S. to seek fame and fortune in the world of self-help and spirituality. His unorthodox methods are put to the test when he must settle a rift between Toronto Maple Leafs star hockey player Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco) and his estranged wife. After the split, Roanoke\'s wife starts dating L.A.

Kung Fu Panda

With 2008\'s KUNG FU PANDA, the talking-animal CGI film enters a new era, one that makes room for both painterly artwork and fierce martial-arts action. Po (voiced by Jack Black), a clumsy and ever-hungry panda, is a huge kung fu fan, but seems destined to sell noodles like his father, Mr. Ping (James Hong), who inexplicably happens to be a goose.

When Po literally crashes a ceremony involving martial-arts masters Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) and Oogway (Randall Duk Kim) and their pupils, the Furious Five--which includes Tigress (Angelina Jolie, in a surprisingly small part) and Crane (David Cross)--he ends up being selected by the latter elder as the revered Dragon Warrior. As the skeptical Shifu reluctantly trains the hapless Po, his former star pupil, Tai Lung (Ian McShane), escapes from a high-security prison, setting up a collision course between the bumbling bear and the powerful villain.

One of the finest animated films released under the Dreamworks banner, KUNG FU PANDA deftly avoids many of the pitfalls of the genre (i.e. cheesy musical sequences), juggling action, heart, and humor in a highly entertaining way.

While Black (in endearingly restrained mode), Hoffman, Kim, and McShane voice their characters with verve, the real stars of PANDA are directors Mark Osborne and John Stevenson and their animators, who lovingly depict ornate Chinese chambers and vast mountainous vistas, as well as blazing kung fu battles. A movie with remarkably wide appeal, KUNG FU PANDA delivers on its quirky, high-concept title with gleeful aplomb.

Tatum O'Neal's Drug Bust Sentence

Tatum O'Neal, the Oscar-winning actress, took a plea deal on July 2 stemming from her June 1 arrest while supposedly trying to score some crack cocaine in New York City's Lower East Side. She was initially charged with possession of a controlled substance and faced a year in prison if convicted. The court allowed her to plead out to a disorderly conduct charge and ordered her to attend two half-day drug treatment sessions.

If she follows the courts orders they will dismiss the cocaine possession charges. O'Neal has been open about her history of heroine addiction as outlined in her memoir, A Paper Life. When she was arrested by undercover officers they searched her and found two bags of cocaine along with an unused crack pipe. She had initially told police that she was doing research for an acting role. Then she changed her story and told them that the death of her 16-year-old dog nearly triggered her into relapse.

Some say O'Neal was treated with a slap on the wrist. Others say she did not deserve to do any jail time because of her addiction. This begs a critical question that we as a society need to address. Should we treat drug addiction as a criminal matter or a medical problem? For most people, treatment is a much more effective approach than imprisonment for successfully breaking their addictions, yet our prisons are full of individuals whose only crime is their drug addiction.

According to Justice Department statistics, the U.S. holds a firm lead in maintaining the most prisoners of any country in the world -- now at 2.5 million and rising. In 2006, Justice recorded the largest increase since 2000 in the number of people in prisons and jails. Criminal justice experts attribute the exploding U.S. prison population to harsh sentencing laws and record numbers of drug law violators entering the system, many of whom have substance abuse problems.

Nonviolent drug offenders like Tatum O'Neal should be given an opportunity to receive treatment, not jail time, for their drug use. This would be a more effective (not to mention much more affordable) solution for both the individual and the community. Prosecutors in many states such as New York, where they have leeway to recommend a defendant to treatment instead of incarceration, more than likely will not do it. This is because it would not be considered a "win" for them.

In effect, the system does not reward prosecutors for doing the compassionate thing. O'Neal can be considered a role model to millions of young people all over the world. One can only hope that her experiences with addiction and the realities of the drug war will encourage her to join the movement to reform U.S. drug policy. If she decides to take up the cause of treatment, she could help change laws across the country.

After all, if treatment instead of jail is good enough for her as she struggles with her addiction, surely it is good enough for the thousands of others just like her who struggle with their substance abuse problems every day. Like depression, addiction affects tens of millions of Americans. How best to treat it is a serious a question we need to explore. Rich or poor, young or old, addiction has no boundaries - but the drug war does.

Our 30-plus-year war on drugs has actually stifled the open debate society should be having about the nature of addiction and how best to deal with it. It is time to treat addiction for what it is, a medical problem, not a criminal one.

Last night was supposed to be the completion of the foundation. After the WWE Draft shook things up, we were expecting championships to be placed in different areas. After last night, it turns out that Vince McMahon's concept was lost on the tenacity of one man and the greed of one faction.

First Bout: WWE Tag Team Championship The Dirt Sheet defeat Finswoggle Finlay and Morrison open up this match with Finlay taking early control.After an interference on the outside, Miz and Morrison decide to turn their attention towards Hornswoggle. Thanks to some clever double teaming, Finswoggle gets the advantage until another interference runs its course again. Back in the ring, Morrison and Miz make frequent tags to keep the pressure on Finlay, but Hornswoggle manages to tag himself in. After dropping a hurracanrana, a stunner and a bulldog on Miz, Morrison comes in and saves his partner.

Following a few elbows to the Shaman's jaw, Finlay is tagged in and unloads on the tag champs. But after the Celtic Cross, he gets dropped off the apron, and Morrison throws Hornswoggle off the top rope and picks up the win.

Second Bout: WWE United States Championship Matt Hardy defeats Chavo Guerrero Chavo tries to go for the quick pin, but Hardy counters with the shoulder block.

Hardy goes for the bulldog, but Chavo counters with a chop block. Chavo starts to work on the left knee, and Bam Neely picks up where he left off while the ref's back is turned. Hardy counters out a leg lock, only to get caught in another one. Chavo misses the swanton and gets clotheslined for his troubles. Hardy nails the Side Effect followed by the elbow drop. Chavo counters with a Single Leg Crab, but Hardy reaches the ropes. As Hardy goes for the Twist of Fate, Chavo wiggles out and reapplies the Single Leg Crab. After Hardy doesn't tap out of the Crab, Chavo nails the Three Amigos, but on the third amigo, Hardy counters into the Twist of Fate to pick up the victory.

Third Bout: ECW Championship (Triple Threat) Mark Henry defeats Kane and The Big Show Kane takes no chances as he brings the fight to both of his challengers. Kane sends Henry out of the ring, but now he has to focus on the Big Show. After a slugfest between the two seven-footers, Show sends him outside, leaving he and Henry to lock horns one on one. After a test of strength, Show bodyslams Mark Henry with ease. As Show goes for the chokeslam, Henry fights it off and both drop each other with clotheslines.

Kane finally recovers and lands the flying clothesline. After a running clothesline in the corner, Mark Henry gets irish whipped into a big boot from the Big Show. After that, a double chokeslam puts Henry down. The two seven footers fight it out again. After the Big Red Monster kicks out of the chokeslam, he drops a double suplex on the World's Largest Athlete, but Mark Henry recovers and hits the World's Strongest Splash to become the new ECW Champion. In the back, Batista, John Cena and CM Punk are picturing the future with either the WWE or World Heavyweight Championships on RAW.

Fourth Bout: World Tag Team Championships Ted DiBiase & Mystery Partner defeat Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes Before the match begins, DiBiase is saying that his partner is ten minutes away. The ref is telling him that he should forfeit the match, but the younger DiBiase decides to start the match until his partner arrives. After the tag champs show no problem with this decision, the match begins with Rhodes and DiBiase. But TD says that he wants Hardcore to start off. So after Rhodes tags in Holly, he spins him around and drops his partner with a DDT.

DiBiase then reveals the identity of his partner: Cody Rhodes. Following a tag from his partner, DiBiase drops Holly with a Million Dollar Dream Sleeper Slam to finish off the charade. Rhodes grabs the mic from Lilian Garcia and announces the winners and new World Tag Team Champions: Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes.

Fifth Bout: Intercontinental Championship Kofi Kingston defeats Chris Jericho Jericho is making it clear that he will beat whoever his opponent is tonight, and he hopes that Shawn Michaels is watching. What Jericho didn't plan on was the newest acquistion to RAW: Kofi Kingston! After Kingston shows what he can do both in and out of the ring, Jericho uses a cheap tactic to get control of the match. As Jericho is going for a back suplex off the top rope, Kingston counters into a Cross Body. Y2J shows his experience as he lands the Lionsault followed by the Walls of Jericho. But the surprises just keep on coming. Shawn Michaels jumps out of the crowd and kicks Lance Cade's teeth down his throat. As he tries to enter the ring, Jericho nails him in the gut, but gets caught by Kingston's Trouble in Paradise.

Kofi gets the pinfall and becomes the new Intercontinental Champion in his first championship match. After the match, Jericho cheap shots Michaels right in the injured eye as he's carried to the back. In the back, Edge is making it clear that he's never needed help defeating Batista in a title match. Whatever you need to tell yourself, Adam.

Sixth Bout: WWE Women's Championship Mickie James defeats Katie Lea Burchill Mickie has control early with a monkey flip and neckbreaker. As James goes up top, Katie Lea slips out of the ring, and thanks to her brother's interference, she gains control. Katie starts to focus on the left arm of James, but the champion recovers with a Lou Thesz Press. But thanks to the injury to the left arm, Katie regains control only to get caught with a hurracanrana.Mickie goes for the DDT but gets caught in a vicious armbar. James battles through the pain, refuses to tapout and nails the Mickie-T to pick up the victory.

Seventh Bout: World Heavyweight Championship Edge defeats Batista via Vickie Guerrero Interference The Animal has control through the majority of the match. After dropping the jackhammer, Batista gets caught on the apron. Edge gains control with a set of neckbreakers. As Edge's assault continues, Batista recovers and drops a clothesline followed by a spear. As Batista nears another reign as World Champion, La Familia starts to enforce their authority.

First, Vickie miraculously gets out of her chair and stops the count from the referee. Then as Edge struggles to get back to his feet on the outside, he pulls the ref out and knocks him senseless. Luckily, Vickie has a "suitable" replacement: Chavo Guerrero. As Chavo makes his way down to the ring, Batista pulls Vickie into the ring, picks her up and throws her onto La Familia. While this is happening, Edge sneaks the World Title in and clocks The Animal, while Chavo sneaks in and counts the pinfall.

One last time, Vickie screws Batista, and Edge gets to keep the World Championship on SmackDown! Main Event: WWE Championship Triple H defeats John Cena These two are flat out enjoying each other's company with shoulder takedowns and snapmares followed by a salute and 'DX' Chop. Cena follows up with a spear and Fisherman's Suplex. The Game recovers and starts to focus on the ribs and lower back of Cena.

After getting two of his Shuffles countered, Cena bounces back with Throwback and Flying Leg Drop. Both men are suffering injuries after being sent over the top rope. Back in the ring, Cena locks in the STFU, but Triple H reaches the ropes. After Triple H counters the FU, he hits the Pedigree, but Cena kicks out! Cena recovers and plants The Game with the FU, but Triple H kicks out! The two men are in a slugfest until a third Spin-Out Bomb leads to the 5-Knuckle Shuffle.

As Cena is set to reapply the STFU, Triple H blocks and counters into a Crossface. Cena shows his strength by lifting The Game while being locked in the Crossface, and as he goes for the FU once again, the Game battles out of it and nails the Pedigree one more time to pick up the victory and retain the WWE Championship. Batista gets screwed, Kane gets squashed and Cena comes up short. Someone mind explaining to me what the hell is going on!

Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend cozied up for the cameras to show off their documentary Battle in Seattle at a screening in LA yesterday with the likes of Matthew McConaughey and Camila. While they managed to keep it G-rated on the red carpet, Stuart joked that Charlize had to sleep with him in order to win a role in his movie, to which she replied, "You are still making me sleep with you.

His lady may be happy to playfully flirt with co-star Will Smith on those Hancock red carpets, but it sounds like Charlize is still having the most fun with her main man.

The Immuno-Modulator Drug (IMOD) prevents entry into advanced stages of AIDS by increasing the number of CD4 cells which effectively control the multiplication of the HIV virus during a 90 day course.
